What is Co-artesiane?

Co-artesiane is a powder suspension used to treat acute and uncomplicated malarial infections. It is a prescription medicine. It will not prevent malaria or work against severe/complicated malaria infections. 

What components are in co-artesiane?

Co-artesiane is a combination of two antimalarial drugs which are artemether and lumefantrine 

How to use Co-artesiane

Read the instructions on the product label and follow your physicians’ instructions. A typical dosage of co-artesiane is 80mg/480mg with the first two doses within 8-hours of each other, followed by four doses twice daily for the following two days. You should not take more than 160mg/960mg in a day. 

Precautions for using co-artesiane

Before use, inform your doctor of any history of heart disease. Co-artesiane should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding when absolutely necessary.  Co-artesiane can make you feel sleepy, avoid using machinery or power tools that require you to be alert when handling them. 

Co-artesiane side-effects 

Common side effects of co-artesiane include:

• Cough
• Dizziness
• Fever
• Headache
• Insomnia
• Joint pain (arthralgia) 
• Muscle pain 
• Palpitations
• Rash
• Eating disorder (anorexia)
• Vomiting 
• Severe inflammatory blisters (acrodermatitis)
