What is Gripe Water?

Gripe water is a time-tested formula that has been used for more than 100 years throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean to relieve the distressing abdominal discomfort that infants often experience. This usually results from colicky movements of the infants’ intestines (bowels), gas trapping, hiccups and teething. Our gentle liquid formula contains dill, spearmint and sodium bicarbonate, which are historically known to ease the nausea and discomfort caused by stomach gas and other colic that lead to frequent, prolonged and excessive crying or fussiness in a healthy baby.

What is Gripe Water used for?

Ernest Gripe Water will keep your babies and children soothed and happy by relieving them from the following bothersome situations that cause parents so much frustration:

Gastric (Stomach) Pain – Colic usually occurs in infants between the ages of ten days and three

months. The exact cause of these colics remain fully unknown. However, Experts believe that, allergy to formula or a reaction to certain diets of the mother, that gets to the baby through breastmilk may be the cause. Others suggest that, Colic may simply occur because the baby’s digestive system is not fully developed yet. Colic seems to produce rapid and severe (painful) contractions of the intestine that probably are responsible for the baby’s pain. Ernest Gripe Water is effective at stopping the Colic and soothing the baby’s gastric pains and discomfort.

Flatulence – Many normal, everyday baby events can create gas, including an immature digestive

system, excessive crying, and eating too quickly or too slowly. As a result, gas becomes trapped in  the stomach, causing bloating, discomfort and distress. Ernest Gripe Water provides rapid relief from trapped gas by helping break down and getting rid of the trapped gas from the intestines.

discomfort teething babies suffer. The excessive drooling may be caused by an enzyme released by the baby’s salivary glands. How do I use Ernest Gripe Water?

Ernest Gripe Water may be administered orally by a dropper, or using the medicine cup provided or a teaspoon. Recommended dosages are as follows:

New Born: Half teaspoon (2.5ml) as and when needed (or up to 4 times daily).

1-6months:One teaspoon (5ml) as and when needed (or up to 4 times daily).

6months-1year: Two teaspoons (10ml) as and when needed (or up to 4 times daily).

2years and over:Two to three teaspoons (10ml-15ml) as and when needed (or up to 4 times daily).

Adults: 2 tablespoons (20ml) as and when needed (or up to 4 times daily).

Adults can use Ernest Gripe Water for gas, indigestion, stomach upsets, nausea and hangovers

too!

These doses may be given before or after each feed or up to 4 times in 24hrs.

When should I give my baby Gripe Water?

Ernest Gripe Water should be given only when needed and not as a preventive measure – after all, it works quickly! To avoid early allergic reactions, we suggest that you wait until your baby is two weeks old before administering Ernest Gripe Water. For all other infants and children, Ernest Gripe Water is recommended at the first signs of discomfort. Most babies will need the product after feeds, when they get gassy from feeding too fast or from gulping in air while feeding. It is a good idea to wait 30 minutes after a feed to administer Gripe Water, as this allows time for food to digest. When it is given too soon, the baby may vomit because he or she may be too full and the ingredients may not mix well with the stomach contents. In situations where the baby is unable to complete a feeding due to problems with gas, he or she can be given Gripe Water prior to feeding. By administering the product at different times, you will learn what works best for your baby.

How long will it take before my baby feels better?

Ernest Gripe Water works fast. It has been known to have a very rapid onset of action,

taking as early as FIVE (5) minutes to produce relief. 

Is it safe to use Ernest Gripe Water for an extended period of time?

We recommend you check with your baby’s Doctor or Paediatrician if you are having to

continuously use this product for long durations. This would help determine if there may

be other important medical conditions causing the baby’s symptoms or not. The healthcare expert would then determine if there is any reason why you should not use it over

time, and advise accordingly. As the formula contains no drugs that would build up over

time in the baby / child’s system, it is safe for babies, children and even adults.

Does Ernest Gripe Water need to be refrigerated?

No! Ernest Gripe Water does not need refrigeration, like some other gripe waters. This

gives you one less thing to keep in mind as you take care of your new baby!

Will my baby’s bowel movements be easier?

Indeed, some expert reports have indicated that some babies have had less trouble with

their bowel movements and were not as constipated as they were before taking Gripe

Water.
