1.  PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS

PARKALIN® EXPECTORANT CHESTYhas pleasant tasting preparation for the relief of cough, are slightly viscous reddish pink flavoured syrup. It is specially formulatedfor the relief of congestive cough in children above 6years of age and adults.

DIPHENHYDRAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE: belongs to a group of drugs called antihistamines or anti-allergies. Most coughs originate from having exposure to allergies. Diphenhydramine hydrochloride acts on the receptors initiating the allergy by terminating further actions of the allergens.

MENTHOL: this is from a group of drugs called volatile oils. Menthol relieves cough symptoms by aiding the decongestion of the respiratory tract thereby relieving coughs. The consequent effect is a soothing relief of the cough.

PARKALIN® EXPECTORANT CHESTYis packed in 100ml pet with a metallic cap and an attached graduated measuring cup. The picture is seen above.

1. THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS/REASONABLY FORSEEABLE USE

Relieves cough and its congestive symptoms, Parkalin Cough syrup is a well flavoured cough preparation which looses tenacious bronchial mucus. It reduces both the bronchial and nasal congestion, providing soothing relief for the congestive symptoms.

1. DOSAGE/METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION/ THE EXPOSED(TARGETED POPULATION)

Parkalin Expectorant Chesty 

ADULT: one or two 5ml spoonfuls every two or three hours. 

CHILDREN: 6-12years: one 5ml spoonful every three or four hours.

Doses may be adjusted according to the doctor’s prescription.

1. WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE

• May cause drowsiness, if this happens, do not drive or operate machinery
• The stated dose must be respected
• Use the graduated measuring cup provided with the product
• Avoid alcoholic drink
• Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredient
• Consult your physician if symptoms persist after 5 days
• If this medicine is taken regularly for long periods of time, the body can become tolerant to it and it may become less effective at relieving pain. With prolonged use, the body may also become dependent on the codeine. As a result, withdrawal symptoms such as restlessness and irritability may occur if the medicine is then stopped suddenly. If you find you need to use this medicine all the time you should consult your doctor for advice.

1. PREGNANCY/ LACTATION

Care should be taken during administration in pregnancy.

1. UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS

It may cause drowsiness in most individuals. However, other side effects include dryness of the mouth, dizziness. Any other reactions being experienced beyond the ones listed should be promptly reported to the doctor or pharmacist.

1. OVERDOSE(SIGNS.SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT)

Treatment of overdose is symptomatic, but rarely required. In the event of accidental ingestion of the contents of a bottle by a child, a doctor should be consulted immediately. Gastric lavage should be considered within two hours of ingestion.

1. SHELF LIFE/STORAGE

• The shelf life is three years from date of production
• Store in a cool dry place
• Keep all medicines out of the reach of children
• Do not use this product after expiry of date.
